Matt is the Founder & Director of First Class College Consulting. Originally from Adelaide in Australia, Matt was one of Australia's leading junior players where he was the South Australian Junior Clay Court Champion, a member of the South Australian Sports Institute (SASI), a member of Tennis Australia's coveted Targeted Athlete Program (TAP) and a part of Australia's Junior Davis Cup Squad.
Matt made the decision to travel to the United States and pursue the collegiate pathway at the age of 18 - it was the best decision he ever made. Throughout his collegiate career competing for Middle Tennessee State University® (MTSU), an NCAA Division I University, Matt was a Team Captain, three-time Sun Belt Conference Champion, two-time Most Outstanding Player at the Conference Championships, and three-time NCAA Tournament Participant.
This decision also gave him the opportunity to meet other student-athletes and Coaches from all over the world, form relationships, and develop a larger network of contacts. Ultimately, it was this network that allowed Matt to obtain teaching positions in New York at some of the most prestigious private country clubs in the United States - Maidstone Club and the Lloyd Neck Bath Club - in the summer months.
Matt graduated from MTSU® with a degree in Exercise Science, where he was named MTSU’s Male International Student Athlete of the Year and a two-time Academic All-American. After completing his collegiate career, Matt played professionally for a short period of time and became an ATP Tour World Ranked player.
Upon returning to the United States, Matt began his collegiate coaching career as the Assistant Women's Tennis Coach at his alma mater, Middle Tennessee State University®. In just his second year on staff, Matt guided the team to an undefeated record at home and the team's highest national ranking in over a decade. This ultimately led Matt to being one of the most sought after Assistant Coaches in collegiate tennis and he made his way to Arizona State University® to serve the Sun Devils® in the same capacity.
In just two short years, Matt was promoted to become Arizona State University's Associate Head Women's Tennis Coach. While on staff at Arizona State® for 9 years, Matt helped the program reach the NCAA Team Tournament each year, saw seven different players make trips to the NCAA Individual Championships, and guided players to seven All-American Honors. The Sun Devils® defeated every team in the PAC-12 on multiple occasions, rose to a Top #15 national ranking, and qualified for the National Indoor Championships for the first time in program history. Additionally, Matt guided the team to an undefeated home record in 2023, coached a doubles team to become PAC-12 Doubles Champions, and a different doubles duo to become the PAC-12 Doubles Team of the Year and #1 Doubles Team in the Nation – all firsts in program history.
Having personally recruited student-athletes from Australia, Italy, Belarus, South Africa, the United Kingdom, Czech Republic, Slovenia, Croatia, Russia, Greece, France, Latvia, Canada, Switzerland, Lithuania, Poland, and the United States to top-tier Division I Universities, Matt's work ethic and knowledge of international recruiting is held in the highest regard across the collegiate tennis community.
